Welcome to HRM's Open Data Catalogue
Mayor Mike Savage and Regional Council are pleased to introduce the new Halifax Open Data Catalogue, which is now a permanent service provided for citizens and businesses alike, as recognised by the newly adopted Open Data Administrative Order
As part of Halifax's commitment to improving citizen engagement and enhancing transparency and accountability to its residents, the municipality is pleased to provide public access to its datasets. For more information on this site and on how to request datasets to be released, click on the FAQ
Using This Site
Use the search bar at the top of the page to find data relating to topics of interest. As you browse through the different datasets, the extent of each will be displayed on the map. Once you find what you are looking for, select the dataset from the list to be able to view the data and get options for download. This application should be viewed using the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer 11 or above. Alternatively, you can view the complete list of datasets through our DATA CATALOGUE.
If you have any feedback on the current user experience, functionality of the features, or additional features you would like to be considered, please CONTACT US through our feedback form.
November 4th, 2016 – As a result of the 2016 municipal election, the new Polling Districts, Polling Divisions and related councillor information has been updated in the Open Data Catalogue. The former 2012 Polling Districts and Polling Divisions datasets will be archived and released to the Open Data Catalogue with our next release.
June 29th, 2016 – We have improved the accessibility to LiDAR datasets. You no longer have to request access to the LiDAR data through email in order to get credentials for the FTP site. This enhancement should allow users greater ease to download and result in the increased use of our LiDAR datasets.
January 20th, 2016 – Based on citizen feedback, we are excited to add two new datasets to our Open Data catalogue! Now available for download are the Building Permits and LiDAR DSM (Digital Surface Model) datasets. There have also been modifications to our Open Data catalogue involving dataset names and updates to the metadata documents for all existing datasets.
January 14, 2016 - It has come to our attention that there are issues with the Zoning Boundaries dataset. Incorrect codes are appearing in the Zoning field. We have talked to ESRI to do some further investigation but appears as though it could be related to subtypes and domains within the dataset getting improperly referenced. If you would like an updated version of the Zoning boundaries, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to access the dataset through our ftp site.
October 1st, 2015 - There have been issues downloading the Zoning Boundaries, missing description and metadata information for some of the datasets. The issues are being investigated by ESRI and hopefully resolved soon. If you require access to the Zoning Boundaries or metadata documents, please email email@example.com. Sorry for the inconvenience.
